Marina Avetisian is a Russian-born , London based singer-songwriter. Blending mellow melodies and differing cultural influences, Marina’s lo-fi, simplistic sound can only be described as celestial. Soft vocals and poetic lyrics allow Marina to form an ethereal connection with her audience as she sings to and soothes the soul.

Easing the audience in to her set with original single “Purple Moon”, Marina narrates a stripped back, bluesy-jazz story of loss and reminiscence. Showcasing her tone with support from her acoustic-electric guitar, Marina scat-sings in to a breakdown of popular ’90s hit “No diggity” by Blackstreet. A charming and pleasantly surprising medley, Marina seamlessly blended old school R&B with her established sound, appeasing the audience with a modern commerciality, similar to Caro Emerald.

Marina’s second single, “Sigh” is three minutes of heterophonic transcendent bliss. Simplistic chord progressions and subtle harmonies between vocals and accompaniment left the room in awe- despite having a delicate presence, the silence from the audience throughout Marina’s performance is a testament to how powerful and well-rounded the songstress is.

Closing her set with a rendition of “Moon River” by Henry Mancini made popular by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Marina left an impression of understated opulance and class as a modern day singer songwriter. It would come as no surprise if Marina Avetisian became the second coming of Katie Melua or Norah Jones in the 2020’s .

Marina can be found across social media platforms at @marinaamusic and her full performance and interview can be found on our YouTube channel now. It was a pleasure to welcome Marina to the Non Violence stage and we wish her the best of luck with her releases in the future.
