Hayley Maybury graduated with a bachelor of musical theatre in 2015 and has toured internationally performing on celebrity cruise ships, starring in We Will Rock You amongst other prestigious gigs. Bringing her honed expertise on stage at the latest Non Violence Live show, Hayley shocked the audience with her extensive range and powerful chest voice, filling the room with her presence and electric renditions of songs we all know and love.

With no introduction needed, Hayley captured the audience by the melismatic opening of her cover of “Somebody to Love”, by Queen, showcasing her register off the mark. Hayley’s confidence and warmth radiated throughout from varying power stances, challenging runs and sustained belting Freddie Mercury would surely approve of.

Transitioning in to her cover of “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran, Hayley expressed the personal importance of the song to her, reflecting on past experiences and the emotional significance it holds for her still. Her authenticity was appreciated by all present as the show’s theme focused on Mental Health Awareness. Refreshingingly honest, Hayley allowed us to gain insight to the person behind the performer. We commend Hayley for her candor and encouragement to own our emotions and speak out without stigma.

Coming full circle, closing with “Save Me” by Queen, the crowd was left with the impression that Hayley’s performance was effortless, all in a day’s work. The lifetime of training, ambition and perseverance have accumulated to mould a powerhouse persona and strong certainty of self as an entertainer. We look forward to seeing Hayley’s future ventures and career progression continue when restrictions are lifted, after all, “the show must go on”.

We believe violence is a choice. We equip young people with the skills to make better choices. Be the change.
